This is the first time I’ve listened to this band and they’ve grabbed me by my throat from the first moments of the opening song. Heimdalls Wacht is a German band and they’ve been playing pagan black metal for over twelve years now. I’m totally surprised that I’ve never come across them, as Geisterseher is their seventh album. It’s quite an achievement really for any band these days. I did have a quick listen to what they had to offer on the previous releases and I was amazed with the quality of their music throughout their career.
I’m not usually into pagan black metal because most of the bands sound similar and they overuse folk instruments like there was no tomorrow. Heimdalls Wacht knows that because they’ve stayed away from these type of influences and what we can hear on the new record is a massive step forward. Geisterseher offers quality black metal with many melodic elements as well as a typical black metal fast fury. The vocal arrangements are quite interesting too. There’s a lot of clean vocals that work perfectly with the black metal screams.
My favourite song from the whole album is the third track called, Der kommende Gott (Treffen mit Sabazios). This song has got all the elements that I would like to hear in a black metal song. Slow and depressive riffs mixed with fast drums and halfway through the song we can hear a female orgasmic screams, it almost feels like the devil himself is ejaculating inside her. Brilliant stuff! This album would please anyone who’s into this genre of music. The album will be released on the 14th October on Trollzorn Records and it will be distributed by Soulfood and AFM Records.
