Let’s go for a short trip to Mexico, the land of some great underground death and black metal hordes. Morbid Messiah is a new creation of 4 youngsters hungry for some brutal and uncompromising death metal. They will just be releasing their last year’s EP album through Godz Ov War Productions. In the Name of True Death Metal is a 20 min long jaunt of pure death, Hell, and suffering! But what is that True Death Metal according to Morbid Messiah?
Just listening to the short intro, you know it will be some heavy stuff! Also, you don’t have to wait too long for some tasty slowdowns which sound really nicely constructed and neatly included in the general havoc of Morbid Messiah. The thing that has struck me upon the first listen is the morbid and sepulchral vocals of José Rivas who seems to procure his putrid voice straight from Hell.
In spite of some great slowdowns, the album sounds very uniform in terms of tempo, keeping the similar rhythm throughout. This, I think, works in favour of Morbid Messiah as it makes it really easy to define their music and know what they guys are after. And they are after some sacrifice for worship! Yes, the Sacrificed for Worship track is full of evil with the heavy and doomy overtones leading to some quicker passages. And I think this remains my favourite song on In the Name of True Death Metal.
‘This is fucking death metal!!!‘ growled in the last song assures you that the guys know what they’re doing and, having some real power, they are ready to brutalize the broader audience. In the Name of True Death Metal is concluded with a hateful ‘fuck you all‘ scream which gives credit to the band’s approach to you in general.
Anyway, In the Name of True Death Metal is some solid material that had been properly recorded and well thought through. As always, with that kind of rising bands, I’ll be keeping my eyes open for what Morbid Messiah will do for the full-length album which, I hope, will come soon after the band deals with establishing their plans for further death metal sodomy.
